The Financial Intelligence Unit of Bangladesh Bank has summoned the bank accounts of 11 journalist leaders including the President-Secretary of the National Press Club. Relevant sources said that a letter was sent to all the banks in the country on Sunday asking for this information.
Among the journalists summoned were Farida Yasmin president of the National Press Club and Ilias Khan, general secretary Mollah Jalal president of the Dhaka Federal Union of Journalists and Abdul Majid acting secretary general M Abdullah president of the Dhaka Federal Union of Journalists and Nurul Amin Rok secretary general. Journalists Union (Part) President Abdul Quader Gani Chowdhury and General Secretary. Shahidul Islam Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu General Secretary of Dhaka Journalists Union (Part) Morsalin Nomani, President of Dhaka Reporters Unity and Mashiur Rahman Khan General Secretary.
The letter said that if any account has been conducted in the past or present in the name of the said persons and their interests, then all the details of the account (including all the documents account opening form KYC transaction profile start to date transaction details) will be sent on 14th September. Only softcopy of the statement should be sent. At the same time if any account has not been conducted in the name of these journalist leaders in the past or in the present, it has also been asked to inform.
